Hand Carry Luggage Must Haves!

Hello Loveys!

I have been travelling out of the country since 2007, and I’ve learned that there are basic stuff that I should bring in my hand carry luggage whenever I travel.  The list has grown over the years as I’ve learned from my mistakes (and added a few more because of my paranaoia), and I thought about sharing my list to all of you.

This is a very long post, however, you my opt to watch my video up on Youtube…

And the list begins with….

1) Passport / Travel Documents

No international travel will be complete without our travel documents.  I also include in my passport holder a printed copy of = the reservations for the hotel and airline tickets or boarding passes. I know that we should go paperless and use our mobile phones, but the “paranoid” in me prints it out in 2 copies, one for my handcarry, and one for my check in luggage. Just to be sure, in case my phone conks out.

2) Wallet

I keep my Philippine and foreign currency separate, so I don’t make any mistakes in any of the payments I do.  I use a wallet where I can place a train card that I will have an easy acces to, and a compartment for coins.

3) Power Adapter

Since different countries have different plugs, and our two pronged plugs do not fit most countries (well maybe except China), compact power adapters are a must.  Just make sure that your devices are capable of 110-230V!

4) Extension Cords

When I travel, I always bring a laptop (to transfer pictures to or do last minute research), cell phone chargers, camera chargers and power banks.  If I only have one power adapter, I can still charge the rest of my stuff through the extension.

5) Sun glasses

Great to hide those eyebags if you’re on a red eye flight.  But definitely handy especially for the sunny weathered countries.  Protect the eyes from the sun’s harmful rays!

6) Sweater / Jacket

For the cold flights or cold nights at the hotel, wearing a jacket can save us from catching the sniffles. Also great to be used as a makeshift pillow.

7) Neck Pillow

Not all airlines have folding headrests, having a neck pillow prevents me from getting a stiff neck during long flights. Also, it can be used as an additional pillow for those accommodations that only gives one pillow.

8) Basic Make up Kit

Arrive in style right? Or a least arrive with color.  Plane rides normally dry out my skin, or accentuate my eyebags and panda eyes, a basic make up kit can solve these problems!  What I normally have is a compact powder, concealer, eyebtow pencil, and lipstick, the lipcolor can double as a blush!

9) Cable/wire ties

I always have this fear that my check in luggage may get broken into even if it has a padlock or a built in lock.  I use this especially if the zippers of my luggage move.  I’ve seen many videos on how “thieves” can break in to a luggage, and close it and you only find out that something’s missing when you actually open it. What I do is that I tie the zipper and locks on to the handles of my luggage, so tight that it will not move even a centimeter.

10) Scarf/Pashmina/Shawl

This can double as a blanket or a face/eye cover during flights.

11) Mini Toiletries Kit

I always have this fear that I one of these days, my flight will either get cancelled, and will require me to stay at the airport where I am.  My toiletries kit has a sachet of shampoo, facial wash, body wash, toothbrush and toothpaste.

12) Water bottle

Make sure to empty the water bottle before going through security.  Refill it after security checks so you’ll stay hydrated during the flight!

13) Plastic Bag

I use plastic bags to store soiled clothes, just in case I need to change clothes in transit.

14) Underwear / Tshirt / Small Towel

For long haul flights, these items are a must!  And again, if ever you get stuck in an airport due to flight cancellations, you have a change of clothes with you, without necessarily going through your checked in luggage.

15) Medicine Kit

I keep one on my hand carry because I have maintenance medicine for diabetes, but aside from that, I also include medicine for headaches, fever, LBM and allergies.

16) Wet Wipes

To clean out the stuff that I touch on the plane, like the tray table, the buttons and armrests.
